Hey everyone - first post, so be kind. :)

My '02 4.8 Yukon started knocking in the mornings until it's warmed up a bit. So my brain started thinking "is there a crate motor to replace this, or should I just get it rebuilt?"

I don't need a drag truck, but going fast is always fun. If the rebuild is the way to go, does anyone have a shop recommendation in the Austin, TX area?

Thanks,
Kraig

Knocking with these engines in the AM is normal, jus piston slap. Don't worry about it.

That's good to hear. I've had the truck for about 4 years, and it just started knocking. So that worried me a bit. Only 117k miles, so I know the truck still has a way to go before retiring. :)

Both of my yukons are well over 100k and both have piston slap in the mornings. Let it warm up til it goes away and drive. It'll be fine. When the knock is there all the time then you have issues.
