Hey everyone. I am a dodge guy normally but the current economic state has made me pursue other options. First I'm about to be going through bankruptcy so my 2012 ram will be going back to the bank. So I had to move to other options and on the cheap. Dodge did not compete in the 3/4 suv club and 4 door pick ups on the cheap are hard to find. So I decided to get a suburban. They are very plentiful where I am located and stock replacement parts are so much cheaper compared to a dodge. I purchased a 93 burb on a whim and got her home and decided it needs more rust addressed than I wanted to do. So I started looking around again and have a chance to buy a 99 3/4 ton with a 454 and 4l80e and the 454 is currently knocking according to the owner.
So now to my question. What issues will I run into by swapping in the 5.7 out of the 93 into the 99 in front of the 4l80. Is the bell housing the same? What issues will there be with the newer electronics? Looks like 93 is tbi and 99 is multi port. So I understand that will be an issue that will need to be addressed first. What parts will be able to be swapped from the 454 to the 350?
I'm not looking into rebuilding the 454 because I'd rather swap a cummins but I do not have the parts available currently.

But long story short I have a 93 with a good 350 and bad trans and a 99 with a good trans and bad engine, looking to make one out of two
Thank you in advance

I'd say sell them both and buy a different one. These GMC products are so cheap its outrageous. I am also a Dodge guy and bought this Tahoe to kick the shit out of and parts are dirt cheap. Bottom line is it would be cheaper to just buy one done honestly.

the case should be the same. i would rather have '99 3/4 with the busted motor and just fix it. full hd cooling options, rear, air 8-lug axle and beefy drivetrain. that is an automatic 10k towing capacity. also you going from 8 point efi to tbi is a nightmare. also illegal in most states at least. big loss in power as well.

So first of all I didn't know that a forum asking a question even though I'm a dodge guy warranted trash talking. Second I didn't know that they had made that many changes between 96 and 99. If the 3/4 ton was 98 with a 350 then it might work but after doing more research I realize that it would be better to repair the 99 and sell the 96. Sorry for the inconvenience with my uneducated post. I just new that dodge kept the same 360 till about 04 and going off that guideline obviously didn't work

I don't see any trash talking.
You do not want to attempt a 454 to 5.7 swap. Skip that nonsense. That's two vehicles in your driveway dead.
Just swap the trans in that 93 and be done with the nonsense.

But......

IMO, Skip both of those vehicles.
Find a 2000 with a 5.3 LS in it. 2wd with a 4l60 and swap in a 80 later if you want.
Even extended cabs can be found for less than 5k, it might not be the cleanest ride, but its damn reliable.
In your condition, there is no way I would be rebuilding a POS bigblock that makes less power than a 5.3, is 10x heavier, parts are expensive as a golden egg laying duck!
Thats rather dumb, bud.

If your financially fooked, you go with the BEST! most RELIABLE vehicle you can find. NOT the cheapest and hope some magical parts swapping with keep your planet spinning in the right direction.

Second thought. why are you looking at gas guzzling pigs if your financially hurting?
Dump them all and get a beep beep car until your ready for pigs.

Ok, then get a LS based tahoe/yukon and dump the old rides.
You would be wise to look down south for a replacement. Especialy location like arizona.
Basiclaly anywhere that dpesnt snow or freeze very often.

No rust and the vehicles are generally taken better care of.
