looking to swap out my 5.7 vortec from my 99 yukon, and replace it with a 2012 suburban engine. not really sure what size engine it is but its the Z71 4x4 model. any insight would help me.

It’s probably a 5.3 unless it’s from. 3/4 ton but those aren’t that common. You’ll get the computers with the donor? @swathdiver might be able to shed light on matching the the trans and trx case and other goodies

A 2012 1500 Suburban would have either the LMG or LC9, both 5.3 engines. The former was used in 2WD models and the latter in the 4WD models but we've seen this rule broken. Check the RPO sheet in the glovebox. If the Suburban is a 2500, it will have the L96 6.0 liter engine.

The LMG and L96 are iron block motors, the LC9 has an aluminum block. All have aluminum heads.

assuming its the 5.3, would i be better off having the 5.7 thats already in the yukon rebuilt.

It would certainly be less complicated to stick with the original motor. Probably cost less too. But if you're looking for more power, it's tough to beat an LS, even a stock one.
More power is the goal I have in mind. How much of a challenge would it be to make the swap.
