Im looking for at least 400hp if not more but with that # i could go with the new escalade motor. Thats 403 or something right?

you can get 400 easily with a good set of heads, custom cam and the rest of the supporting mods +a tune. you will need a convertor, to go with the cam required to 400 to the ground.

Is it hard to build a "60e" and do you know how much they run, new or used?

2-4k for mild to wild on built 60's

I see alot of things about a "65e" Anyone know why they say the "60e" doesnt have reliability?

No clue.

What about a "700R4" Anyone have a thought on this transmission???

700R4 is the non computer controlled version of 4l60, so its not any stronger.
If you wanted to go backwards in terms of technology, a turbo 400 is the best choice. They are damn near bullet proof once built. But! theres no way I would do that.. 4L80 built is the way to go

I think most SS trucks came with 65e, the 60e can be made into a 65e. The 65e has a five-pinion planetaries, along with a strength-improved output shaft for added strength.

You should look into a 6L swap, you can pick up a LQ4 or LQ9 cheap and throw a set of heads and cam into it. I would go with a 4L80e if you are going to be over 400rwhp. The 60e can take it but who knows for how long and while you have the engine out you might as well swap the tranny.

I'm shooting for 450rwhp out of my stroked 6L with forged internals and a built 80e. That would be in the neighborhood of 530hp at the fly wheel.

Take it to your local performance shop and get some quotes and talk to the guy. You need to do much more reading before you are able to make these decisions on your own.

I'm not trying to flame or bash, but you obviously are new to this. Talking to someone face to face is much better than over the net.

If you feel up to it, grab a service manual and swap in a cam, and send your computer out for a tune. Depending on the cam, a higher stall tq. converter will make a ton of difference in the feel (doesn't add power, but it moves you into the powerband quicker from a start basically). Between those things you'll get quite the seat of the pants pick-up.

And don't rule out s/c or turbo. A screw style s/c especially feels awesome off the bottom end with gobs of torque. A s/c would be capable of over 500hp at the flywheel easily with supporting mods such as cam, tune, fuel supply. Your transmission will not last long though.

My wife and I have decided to keep our 1995 Yukon SLT 4x4. It has been a great truck and has the original drivetrain with no work done to it. We looked at the new Denali and hate the lack of room in the three row configuration (come on GMC, if I wanted a Suburban, I would have bought one). I am going to upgrade the motor and trans with a ZZ383 or comparable. I also want to keep the appearance of stock and pass emissions without any hassles. Can anyone help me decide on a fuel delivery system to accomodate 400-425HP and Torque? We have 205K on the odometer and want to go another 200K.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pick up a decent low mileage lq4 or 9 and put it on a stand in the garage, start adding cam, lifters, headers, heads if you want..... and when your 5.3 goes south or your ready you will have a beast ready to drop in. All reputable trans shops can build your 60e to handle the HP
