ESKY Roof Rack Installation

Yes i do have esky rack. The end caps are black, i need to clean it all up. But i have all hardware, the torx screws, the center screw that holds the chrome section on, the crossbars as well as endcaps. I have everything you will need to install it.

Installing is beyond simple. Take yours off, clean, put the center bolt on so the center section mounts, put center (chrome) section on , bolt down, put end caps on, put cross rails on, Done, enjoy new esky rack..

Yes i am selling it, not a good look on my tahoe, (so if anyone is interested in one, pm me)

OP - Send me a pm if interested, i have all parts for you to put on. Nothing missing. ( will double check)

Chauncey - thanks

Well, the more I read, the more questions I come up with. BUT, I guess this is what the forum is all about, so it's a good thing.

Ok, here it goes:

1.) Mike states above "put end caps on, put cross rails on, Done."

However, in the attached HOW TO link from SUMO http://tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/sho...ht=how+to+roof it is mentioned to slide the cross rails in PRIOR to putting the end caps on, quote:

"They slide in from the rear once the side rails are on the truck. But make sure you don't want to add the cross rails if you're going to snap the rear caps into place. Those caps can be a real pain to remove once snapped into place!"

So which is it? Do the cross rails slide in PRIOR to putting the rear caps on? This way it would make sense to me, as I can not see how the cross rails would go in with the end caps attached!?!?

2.) As I do not have a roof rack of any kind nor a roof box, would it be advisable to keep the cross rails off? Will it help the gas mileage at all by NOT installing the roof cross rails, or do you all think it is better to just put everything on in order to have it all complete?

Many thanks in advance, your input is as always greatly appreciated.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you all!

You're right. It does make sense to slide the cross rail in before you put the end caps on. As for the gas mileage, if you keep them off you should gain about 10 mpg:manos:. But I would install them to keep it all together, complete, as you stated. Now we need pics, dangit! Happy turkey day!:chicken:

Well my quote above was basically a short cliff note summary. Just typed it out, didnt really think of order. Once you actually have it in front of you, its common sense of how it goes together. Put rails on, screw down, slide cross bars, put end caps. (steps are in between that, but if you really need a detailed way of doing it, i will pm you it. Its very easy to do. Once you see it, its much easier than trying to read how to do it.

For roof racks and mpg, i have no idea, but its not going to do anything you would notice in my opinon. Its to small. Puttin them on or not, is completly up to you. Try it out and see if you like it, if not then slide them right off.

But if you need a little help w/ it, i can pm you with some help. Its very easy though if you have any sort of car knowledge, its like putting legos together if you did that. lol. Actually that was a little harder. lol...

Also, the end caps, in my opinion are not hard to take off. Ive taken off quite a few, just to see how to take them off. if older one and dirt and trash is in it, then yeah a little tougher, but not too bad.

Wow, 10 mpg??? :Whoa: That's HUGE. I will definitely leave them off. :doh2:

Keeping it all together/complete it will be, THANKS.

Before I can post pics, I need to have the rack first. :) But no worries, you know there will be pics once I am finished.

Thanks Mike, no additional info or a PM necessary, I just wanted to make sure I was not going to screw anything up. You have certainly answered my questions, many thanks.

Nice! Your ride will look much better afterwards! Are you gonna get the Esky third brake light/back glass window afterwards? I love how the esky third brake light housing is color matched. Looks soooo much better then the stock Tahoe/Yukon one that's unpainted black.
