Exhaust system replacement

My ‘14 is currently being used by college kid to go to n from school 600 miles between the house n his dorm.

Pre cursor:
The cats are on their way out, getting the whooshing sound and they are getting hot.

Looking at replacing the system with a magna flow 51578 system & new 02’s & possibly the rest of the exhaust.

?’s.

The end of this magna flow system by the intermediate pip has a “flare” to it. I see the intermediate pipe on the truck has one that mates to it.

What kind of clamp do I need to put the 2 together?

Does the aftermarket cats throw codes for some odd reason after they system has been on for a while? If so anyone have an idea why?

I believe you weld at the joint and there is no clamp. I could be wrong, but personally I would weld it. The tiniest hole makes a big difference.

Some of the codes are related to bad grounds in the o2 sensor circuits. Once you’ve eliminated that possibility, verify all you’re o2 sensors are in good nick or newly replaced with OEM from a verified retailer.

I’m going down the catalytic converter road right now. So far the injectors, intake, valley cover gaskets & o2 sensors have been replaced as other repairs make it accessible or convenient.

The next route is adding an o2 spacer(s) to see if that cures the DTC. If it does, I’ll know for sure the cats are shot at 190k.

The cats they require in CA, NY and some other stringent states are so expensive I might try to use cash to find a used set that technically can’t be resold.

I’ve ruled out the grounds, first thing I checked. Under the hood at the sensors and under the drivers door @ the frame.

The o2’s are what changed after the ground check & cleaning.

Newest thing today is P0442 & P1333 iirc

I'm glad my son lives out of state lol I will tell you this that the EPA certified cat work just fine on a CA emissions vehicle no codes and passes the stupid smog test.
