Exhaust upgrades

So, after searching I can't find an answer. The muffler on my 04 yukon is a stock single in dual out... but then it immediately merges back into a single pipe.

So what's the point of a single in dual out if the dual out merges right back I to a single... why not just go single in single out if it's just going to join right back up after the muffler into a single tail pipe.

I'm looking to upgrade to a magnaflow, because I believe a V8 should sound like a V8 and wondered about throwing in a single in single out instead of the dual out.

My guess is GM did it to further reduce the sound output. Cut sound in half out of muffler by putting it into two pipes then exhaust it out of one pipe to save on money for tips. And more muffling means a smaller muffler in general.

Again, just a guess.

I had the same thing. I ordered a single in single out 3". I took it to a shop and they cut out the old muffler and used new pipe from the flange to the muffler and new pipe that they bent coming out of the muffler to the top of the axle and welded it to the stock tailpipe. So The only stock pipe I have is from the axle back. It cost me 245 in labor. Not bad considering they used a lot of their own pipe. Sounds great to me

My Tahoe has a single in single out super 44 flowmaster. I'm wanting dual exhaust should I get a dual out muffler or dual it after the muffler. Sounds pretty good now but I know dual tips will sound better. Sorry for the hijack.
