So, you think the average Joe is better at actuary science than the actuaries working at the service contract company?

My point, which seems to be being missed is this:
On the whole, the paid repair claims from service contract companies are less than the revenue those companies generate from selling the service contract…I has to be this way, or the business doesn’t work.

Extrapolate that to an individual purchasing a number of vehicles and service contracts over a period of time, and in the end the consumer will spend more than they receive in claims.

Net, it is always less expensive to self insure
It's like insurance. It can work for you if you want it too and take the time to understand. The vast majority don't so the house wins.

It's that simple. The difference between me and you is I leave the decision up to the owner. You seem to need someone to tell you you are correct.

I am new to the GM/Chevy brand and likely to purchase a 2024 Tahoe. We typically keep our vehicles 6 to 8 years and put about 10,000 miles on it per year. I have had situations with some large expenses after year 5 or 6 so I am either thinking of just trading sooner or getting an extended warranty. Does anyone know a price range for an extended warranty on a New Tahoe through GM, and are there other Service Contract companies that are more competitive?

The big question is.... do you have a vehicle with a long line if dependability or not? If there are rarely problems and you maintain them well, you certainly aren't abusing your vehicles.... and may easily slip by to 6 years and /or 60K. But if you are going to drop valves, lifters and main bearings at any moment (6k miles or 60K miles...) or your tranny or AC compressor flakes out at 41K, well then, it's on you.
I shop around and mainly talk to the place I would be taking it for extended service to see what plan they have the best luck paying claims with and not getting claims paid.
You gotta feel good about knowing if it DOES happen that you will be covered. Lower cost providers will blame everything under the sun to deny your coverage, because you changed the oil 700 miles to late, etc. Keep meticulous records and do maintenance on time even if its "not needed" These things will improve your odds....

Thanks for the input. One additional question. Would it be better to consider an extended warranty closer to the 35 months vs buying up front? I realize the cost will be higher at 35 months but the term at that point would only be another 3 years and 30,000 miles.

My extended warranty started after factory expired.

If you have to have an extended warranty, then it should EXTEND the warranty, like this one, after the bumper to bumper expires. Otherwise, the money is wasted if it overlaps.

If you are only keeping it 6 years..who cares if it overlaps or not? The price of these goes up every year. I bought mine withing a month of purchase and its behind me now.
You don't know what you will face in 3 years....

The cheapest GMPP warranty I found (this is the best) is thru [email protected]

Email him and get a quote
I spoke to Todd Sutherland and he will beat his prices by $200. He's basically charging $200 over cost. Todd seems like a really good guy and I would highly recommend him.

In regards to the timing of purchasing your warranty, Todd explained that the price will remain the same from the time the vehicle is new until 12,000 miles, at which point there is a modest price increase. Then the price stays the same until 24,000 miles when there is another larger price increase. He told me that the sweet spot for buying a warranty is just before either one of these with just before 24k being the best bang for your buck since you will have the least overlap of the factory and extended warranty.

These are the prices I got from one of the dealers selling warranties. It's the GMC warranty and these numbers are $400 over dealer cost. Edit: these prices are for a 2024 Yukon Denali.
