The black grille does have a bit more space than the factory one but not by much.
As you can tell in the pic below, my Tahoe has always had a bit more space above the grille.

Thanks guys. The engine cover was done by a friend and yes it is the one right above the actual engine.
I don't think I have a picture of the rents house though. I always find myself taking pictures in the garage area.
