Fat Mat - Shout out!

So I researched sound deadening material. In the past I have used Dynamat and Mastic sheets from McMaster-Carr and some other brand I can't remember the name of right now.
This time around I chose Fat Mat. I got the 100sqft bulk pack. Arrived quick, with 2 rolls of mat material, a knife and a roller (I had 2 already but nice) instructions for install. I did read the instructions but they didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Started the install last night. Install was quick and easy. the material molded REALLY WELL to the different contours of the body. I made relief cuts as needed and forged ahead. All in all I got 1 layer so far on the rear floor, rear doors and rear sides of my Hoe. Did a 2nd layer on the wheel wells. I felt I got a lot done in the few hours I was working, especially in comparison to my previous experience.

I am just supremely impressed with this stuff. Easy cutting, molding and applying. I can't talk on the performance just yet, but the dull thud is an indication of it working like it should. The cost was good (IMO), but the installation factor is really high in my book. Although I haven't done this in 10 years so the advances in this type material has of course improved which probably made the installation a lot easier.

Just wanted to share my experience so far, and will post some pics when I get the rest of the truck done.

I used a type of fat mat when re-doing my interior a few months back as well, I think it was called Rattle Trap. I'm in Arizona where temperatures are 100+ on a daily basis and haven't had any issue with the product coming off, even on the roof!

I haven't driven it enough to comment on it's sound deadening properties, but for the price I'd definitely recommend it.

I'll post some pictures when I get home of my install.

- I hope not. From my experience, a lot of the lasting power in these products is in the preparation of the surface before installation, the removal of air bubbles and general temperature during installation. A heat gun also works wonders when you need to stretch the material to fit a specific contour.

UPDATE: I have to say, since the installation, there is an improvement (read decrease in the noise level) in the cabin. I also hear less rattling of the interior panels. So far so good.

And one more. I did the entire floorpan, and rear ceiling with the 100ft roll, and had some leftovers to do some odds and ends. You can also see I removed the bracket on the driver side wheel well as I had no use for it.

LOOKS GREAT . I will be removing the carpet from my 95 2 door I'm going to use molded vinyl flooring very kid friendly if u know what i mean. I'm going to look into sound deadening materials before i do the install. thanks allot

If you're going with a molded vinyl floor, this stuff will probably at least even out the volume difference you would experience with losing your carpet.

I put down 75ft of FATMAT with a heat gun and roller over 3 years ago. Its been through cold winters and hot summers and hasnt peeled at all. Dont believe the Dynamat hype.

its not dynomat hype but the fatmat is asphalt based and is not as good as say a second skin which is butyl based and it has been proven butyl is better then any of the asphalt based deadeners
