Im fixing to build a new box for my subs. I just wanted to post up and see what yall think i should do. Right now they are in a ported box at like 34hz. The box is about 1 cu. to big for my w3 v3s(this is what im told by the guy that built the box.) Should i go back with a ported box or go sealed? Ive always liked my sealed boxes, but the last two ported boxes ive had have grown on me. Any advice... i should be building it this week sometime.

thanks
justin

It depends what type of sound you want the sub to make. What are you looking for? Ported is louder but not as crisp a sealed box.

right now i have 4 w3v3's and a 500/1v2 jl amp... thats why i like sealed boxes cuz of the crisp sound. But i dont know what i should go back with.

me personally, I too prefer sealed. Woofer usually can take more power, sound better and have a better, smoother low bass extension and be less boomy. Ported is indeed louder with less power, but at a peaky (around tuning) downfall and larger box, and you have to be careful not to play below the enclosures tuning.
Best musical reproduction will come from a sealed enclosure.
