I'm actually putting a camera where my rear wiper is. I plan on powering it off a switch and the reverse lights. I should be able to wire it to where it will come on automatically when in reverse and still use the switch to be able to turn it on any other gear, in case I'm pulling something or for whatever reason want to look back

All you need is a diode from the reverse wire to the switch wire, that way ur reverse lights won't go on when u flip the switch... or u can do it by switch only and manually flip the switch when u put it in reverse

I just did this to my 04 yukon xl. a 20' cable from radio shack is the perfect length. I routed the vid cable along the bumper to the drivers side. up the taillight and vent cap, down along the side storage, up to the headliner before the doors, down the a-pillar and across the dash. perfect length.

The power for the camera is wired to the drivers reverse light. the power for the display is wired to the grey wire on the BCM so it doesn't turn on with the perimeter lighting. I mounted the display using some erector set parts and double sided tape for now. i just need to tweak the mounting point a bit and heat shrink the connections outside the vehicle. all in all it was a pretty simple install.

Also, i didn't splice the wires near the reverse bulb, i pulled the wires out of the socket, and slid the camera power wires through the rubber grommet and re-crimped it all together for a water tight seal.

My screen should be here soon.. i was wondering where you guys were powering yours. Can you elaborate more? Where is the grey wire in the BCM? I'd like to hook mine up the same way.

I've noticed you guys are tapping your camera and monitor power sources separately. What is the reason for that and why can't you tap the same power source for both?
