My brake booster has a sticker that says afm on it. I guess that should have been a indicator. Any link to the delete kit you mentioned?

The AFM sticker on your brake booster is mere coincidence and has nothing to do with the engine.

The easiest way to check is to scroll through the options on the DIC and see if it says V8 mode... It will change to V4 mode while coasting.

Definitely does not have it on the dic but as stated above wouldn't be turned on just using afm components since it's a 6.2.

No. There were 2 different 6.2 in the denali starting in 2007. The first version did not have AFM or any AFM internals. The second version had AFM lifters, cam, and valley cover but did not have AFM turned on in the tune. The second version is the one to avoid or if you have it, install an AFM delete kit. So while you may not have AFM on your 2007+ 6.2, it is very likely you have AFM components which are extremely unreliable

Is there any way to see some photography on this? When my '08 was under warranty I had it into the dealer for a ticking sound, which they argued was a lifter problem and took my truck for 3 days and replaced all the lifters. The ticking sound was still there when I got it back, but I agree it had improved, but I argued back and forth with the service department that it was piston slap and not the lifters. Cold startup, sounded terrible.

Anyway the ticking sound (sounds like a freaking diesel) of the pistons is evident and does go away when it warms up, but the other ticking sound remains and has worsened making me think the lifter problem has "returned".

Correct me on this but i thought piston slap was more common on the older ls engines because at some point, this was explained or i read it, gm decided to stop 'matching pistons and cylinder bore sizes' as it was cheaper to produce as many pistons and blocks as they could, set some tolerances and slap whatever together not taking into account, or taking the time to or care about the difference in size, small as it may be, that the machines turn out. With that if the piston is a bit too small it will flop around at the bottom of the bore creating your 'slap' as it travels back up the cylinder and the fix was longer piston skirts.....this slap never went away as it the motor warmed up and was constantly there. The other 'ticking' that these motors did was all lifters and as the engine warmed up it quieted down some. On the newer ls engines i didnt think the 'piston slap' is and an issue anymore but the valvetrain- lifters, etc is the most common problem along with/caused by the dod/afm ********.
I could be making this all up but i swear i read it somewhere or someone told me. Im no mechanic so dont rag on me too hard.
