First Oil Change?

I bought this 2012 suburban with 94000 on it. Im at 97xxx and am thinking about my first oil change. Ive searched around and read threads, multiple people suggest different brands for different reasons. I even saw one comment about not going with synthetic unless you know it had it already. So im wondering, what should i go with? Im in the northeast, its my daily driver. not sure if that matters.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic with a Mobil 1 filter. Most likely your truck has synthetic in it already. The worst case is you start to see leaks where there weren't any before. You can always switch back.

thats what i used in previous trucks.... but i had both of them since new.

I've done a lot of reading and watching on the supertech high mileage full synthetic oil from wally world, and I'm sold. I also saw a tear down of supertech oil filters and they have far superior innards to that of fram (low bar, I know), so I'm sold on those too. Anyhow, <20 bucks for a full synth oil change? Sold.

SN plus rated oil amazon basics full synthetic is SN plus rated @ 24$ for 6 x1qt 5w30

the minimum for 2012 is SN rated

Penzoil has a $10 rebate right now on their synthetics. its about $22.88 at walmart before rebate. I got my rebate is just under a month for synthetic high mileage 5w-30.

I use Walmart Mobil 5w30 with the blue label for higher mileage synthetic. Been using it for almost 3 years on this truck and no oil leaks since 120k miles. I use AC Delco oil filter since that is what came with truck I believe, also purchased from walmart. I tried using a different filter once and coincidentally my oil sensor went bad.

I have yet to see any evidence from anyone to indicate that they ever picked the 'wrong' oil. What you usually see is people saying, "I've used X brand forever and never had a problem."

Outside of verifying oil weight, the average user is probably overthinking things when spending a ton of time deciding on oil selection.

I agree. I usually use whatever’s cheapest. The Pennzoil is def the cheapest with the rebate. I use the Walmart super tech quite a bit too if nothing has a deal
