First time in the forum, not necessarily my first time tryna get information for a vehicle and poke at the brains of
individuals that love these trucks.

I have an 02 Tahoe
5.3 Flex fuel, 11:1 comp, BTR Cam, Summit Rebuilt 4l60E 4x4
Lifted on 33's, swapped to 07 calipers.

I have a current issue I need to solve, Which I believe may be throttle body/IAC related and another issue as well.

1st Idle surges a bit when the trucks sitting, Then under load even light load it began as a simple stumble, then became an issue of it getting locked in Id say 1st gear and stumbling to go as it would seemingly drop idle then seem like it had no throttle response and surge up and then lose throttle and stumble in and out of even light loud. So as I said I believe it may be Throttle body/IAC related but issue 2 gives me a bit of a run around.

2nd P0200 Injector circuit open No other codes present, car surges initially i assumed ok Injectors have reached the end of their life span, Replaced them and within a day it went from idling better to having the stumble and surging issue, now they could be completely unrelated and be a coincidence because it doesn't smell like its running as rich and have an overbearing fuel smell. And seemed to idle a bit smoother.

I was thinking I may be having fuel pump issues, even though its recently replaced I was getting near 37 psi at the rail when it began to do the surging of throttle as it was driving and losing throttle then surging but it was not changing the pressure when the surge came, I have not done the filter on it yet it has 96k on it so could be due, but doesn't seem like the issue oddly, because when i unplugged the FPR the pressure rose but only to 50, Im thinking I need more pressure at the rail for sure but will retest the pressure before the filter to confirm my suspicions.

ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME, I will actually come back to this thread to post the FIX instead of leaving a dead end thread.

Yeah, what @swathdiver asked about tuning...

If you have an injector open circuit code, that needs to be fixed. Strange that you don't have a misfire? You said that's fixed, so that's good.

The fuel pressure is also below spec. Again, strange you are not getting P0171/74 lean codes both banks? Can you double check fuel pressure with the regulator vacuum hose unplugged? You said it jumps to 50, correct? That kinda points to the FPR, not the pump. The 37 psi was with it running? What is the static pressure before firing the engine?

So, maybe multiple issues going on? When was the cam replaced? Did it ever run good? When you start having these issues?

Ok lots of great replies.

The truck is tuned for the cam, it’s only a stage 1 cam so modification of injectors wasn’t necessarily required. But I dis do some springs in the heads to help ease valvetrain.

It used to run very great, hot off the line and steady through all gears it would pull hard.

The issue slowly became worse so that’s why I felt slowly other issues brought problems.

The fuel pressure at static KOEO was 40 on my gauge but I tried another it was like 45. Then when I’d pull FPR and receive 50 I immediately replaced the FPR because with it connected under load the pressure would fall off. Now that to me was a sign of possible weak pump as well or a clogged filter. So I’m gonna change the filter today. Then re test with gauge on it.

One thing I noticed last night as I thought about it, my spark plugs are a hotter plug than what I necessarily would have wanted when it was running E85 and that lead to a spark plug diode over expanding the gap and blowing the plug. Which it then allowed the truck to develop the initial stumble which I will be checking the cylinder isn’t fuel washed but I also will be checking the tune as I never had one misfire code so I’m wondering did the tuner stupidly turn off misfires in the tune. Which as I find out more I’ll report

Agree that the fuel pressure is low.

What's a spark plug diode?
