Hey guys... So I recently picked up a 2012 Yukon Denali and since it only came with one fob/key set, I'd like to get another set made... However, after seeing how sharp the 2015-2016 fobs look compared to my generic-looking 2012 model, I got to thinking: Am I able to purchase a 2015/2016 fob (maybe the dealership, but likely eBay) and then have the dealership program that new model fob to my 2012 Yukon Denali?

It looks to me like both fobs have all of the same buttons and functions, but I've been unable to find ANY information (outside of eBay item descriptions) about backwards compatibility; so, I thought I'd drop a line here any see if any of you guys know anything about upgrading fobs... Thanks!

As long as you have a working key, replacement keys can be programmed by you in about 2 minutes. I forget the specifics, but believe that replacement fobs can also be programmed by you. If you know someone with a newer Tahoe, you might be able to talk them into letting you try to reprogram their spare fob to your vehicle. As long as you can reprogram it back to their vehicle or are willing to cover the cost of reprogramming it, then there shouldn't be an issue.

Look on Amazon for the FOB, then if it doesn't work, then you should be able to easily return it w/in 30 days. This method is easier if the item is "prime eligible".

Odds are the newer generation trucks fobs won't work. Do the buttons line up between the fobs? Maybe you could just swap the guts?

I think I read somewhere that the Esclade remotes will work. Take a look at the Esclade remotes from your year, they are pretty cool looking. If that is what you are after.

Anything after 2010 cannot be programmed through the DIC. The only way to do it is through Tech II

the 2015+ won't work on the 07-14. The only thing you can upgrade to is the esclade remote
