So this is my first yukon and it just started to get cold here , but i noticed last night when i was driving down the road my temp gauge started falling , i let the truck warm up for roughly 5 min before heading home. Driving down the road the temp gauge kept creeping back to 40 , but when i stopped at a light it would creep back up...

im going to assume that its because while driving the cold winter air is rushing throught the nice big opening in my grill , but i can only assume that its not that good for my truck , or my comfort inside the vehical. Anything i can do?

Sorry about writing a novel...

If it's ur temp ur talking about it's not normal and I have heard that thermostats can fail open and that could be why this is happening.

Temp, or oil pressure? Your temp shouldn't be 40. Your oil pressure should be about 40...

100% its the temp gauge...my oil pressure is like 275 i think.... i don't pay much attention to the numbers just making sure that i have oil pressure

T stat eh? well good think they are decently easy to replace. Would you guys recommend a lower temp one?

i don't know if it makes any sense or not but i have heard it keeps the motor cooler ( from my experience in hondas/nissans/fords/subarus/toyots)

I think lowest reading is like 110?? anyway on the T-stat, get a stock temp one, most are 180 I think..any lower, your heater will suck in these colder temps.

..thanks for the pic haks310

As we can all clearly see here, the oil pressure gauge (as seen in picture above in the bottom right, second light from the end) is the ONLY gauge other than the speedometer that has the ability to read near the number 40.

If your oil pressure was reading 275?? Assuming you were looking at your temp gauge, which in that case, you are overheating.

Check your coolant level, check your fan / clutch, then get back to us.

haha , im dumb , im from Canada... 40* F is roughly 90ish* C my temp gauge has a 40* at the very left hand side and i think 110* is just past half

that might shed some light on the situation , i was beginning to think i was nuts

Ahhh, so on your model if it is creeping down to 40º C then yes, I would see a problem. Sounds like your system is wide open all the time, when you are driving, higher rpm, the coolant is non-stop flowing through the system.

When you stop and the temp goes up? Is it getting hot? Or just to where it is supposed to be at?

Almost thinking your fan clutch might be acting up...
