So I decided to tackle the task of retrofitting a hydroboost setup into my 1996 Chevy Tahoe. I picked up the set up used from the fsc classifieds not too long ago. Learned quite a few things during the install:

1) The mounting plate brings the linkage for the brake pedal up slightly from stock

2) No, the vacuum assist MC does NOT fit on the hydroboost (had to check for myself) setup at all. Hence a brand new Cardone setup was purchased and installed.

3) Have no idea where the brake pedal I got with the hydroboost setup came from, but there is no way it will fit my truck without hitting the steering column! THIS IS THE WORST PART! It seems that my Hydroboost (HB) pedal fits the linkage nicely but does not clear the steering column because it is missing a curve like the stock pedal. Putting the stock pedal on obviously gives me the travel I need, BUT the stub for the linkage is too far down to allow the linkage to go in the booster straight.

Top is my mystery year hydroboost pedal and bottom is my stock Tahoe pedal

Left is my pedal and right is HB pedal. Note the heights of the stubs for the linkage

So my question to you guys is what is the correct pedal for my Hydroboost setup that will give me the correct stub position and clearance for my steering column? The HB setup I bought has been undercoated so I cannot see at all where the part number for it is so I can track down what truck it came from. Going to go to the scrap yard tomorrow to try and find a 96-98 HB pedal with the same shape as mine.
THANKS in advance for any help on this situation.

Why can't you relocate the stock shaft further up on the OE pedal??

I was thinking of that. You mean relocating the stub further up on the OE pedal right? I just wasn't sure how the stub was fastened onto the pedal. If it was pressed on or what. Kinda wanted to stay away from modding the pedal so I wouldn't have to worry about it coming apart during a panic stop or something.

Keep the receipt for the Cardone MC - unfortunately they are known to leak around the rubber gaskets at the bottom. I'm not sure why, but when i was doing HB research, all the heavy duty guys were complaining about Cardone MC's...and unfortunately it was quite a few of them.

If yours works w/o issue, then even better (i don't mean to be a party pooper)

For your truck, look for a HB pedal from a similiar year HD Chevy. For me personally, I'm modifying my '99 OBS with a '99 454 Suburban...supposedly its relatively plug & play.

I haven't gotten to ordering the pedal yet, so any insight you have from your search tomorrow, send it away!
