I've driven 2 Tacomas, think 2008 and 2012. Then 2 4Runners 2016 and 2022. Never had an issue.
GX550. Squealing brakes and fluttering hood so far.
So guess worried about reliability in general.

So guess worried about reliability in general.
I have had 3 Lexus GX and 2 Lexus LX and got rid of the LX 600 in July and went to the GMC Yukon. This has more room, better electronics and is more comfortable than the Lexus LX. I left Lexus when they recalled the LX600 because of an engine defect and said they were going to replace engine but had no idea when they would start this. To me this was a safety problem and the recall was for about 3000 LX’s and close to 100,000 Tundras withe the same engine.
Between my wife and I we have had about 15 Lexus vehicles (she drives the LS) since they went into production over 30 years ago.
She is keeping her LS but we only put about 4000 miles a year on her cars.

Extended warranty… got these last week. Still deciding which one.. i am pretty pleased with my 2024.

I went to a '23 Denali after an '09 Tahoe (and '02 Tahoe prior to that), so I've been driving the platform for over 20 years. I absolutely love the look of (and just about everything else about) these trucks, and so I might be willing to put up with more than you are -- or maybe not. I'm of the mind that if something goes wrong with the truck, GM is going to fix it. But in the meantime, it's an absolute pleasure to drive and look at -- and no other truck was going to satisfy my personal criteria for this vehicle.
There have definitely been some common issues with these trucks, but we on an enthusiasts' site are probably going to be the most aware of them. Still, a lot of us wouldn't trade our trucks for something else.

Just got done cross shopping these two.
We have a 21 4runner and wanted to see if these two from Lexus would be substantially better. Specifically looking for a bit more cargo room and way more seat comfort.
The lx 600 was flat out amazing. The comfort was night and day better than 4runner or anything else out there.
Problem was the front portion of interior was more like a sports car than suv. It was very cramped. More cramped than 4 runner.
Cargo room was a bit better than 4 runner.
Not enough overall improvement to get rid of a paid off 4runner given the price tag of lx600.
The main bearing issues are still looming in the background as well…
The gx 550 was intensely disappointing.
It was a slightly spruced up version of 5th gen 4runner limited.
Major nvh at low speeds. Decel or accel.
Hood bounce was comical. It would drive me nuts as time wore on.
Powertrain mapping was aggravating: felt very sluggish stop light to stop light. Like the brakes were stuck on. The massively underpowered 5th gen 4 runner had better acceleration and power train mapping.
Engine was very noisy and not in a cool way.
Overall interior quality seemed lower than our 21 limited 4 runner.
Seats were no more comfortable than 4runner.
The new sequoia is substantially smaller than previous years and the interior somehow only has 1-2 cubic ft of cargo room more than 4runner despite being bigger. Lol.
The Tx is essentially a highlander and we need rear wheel drive with good 4wd.
If you are looking for cargo room then Lexus and Toyota flat don’t have anything that compares to Tahoe/Yukon/suburban/Yukon xl.

Don't know how big you want to go but before you buy make a deal where you drive a regular and a Yukon Denali XL. The extended wheel base really makes a difference in the ride. Especially on certain hiways. Like your Lexus the shorter wheel base can make it a little front to rear rocky. (Depending on the roads). Also consider swapping for Michelins. They are a fantastic tire for these units. Also as long as your dealer shows you paid for them thay are fully warrantied by Michelin. All he needs to do is credit the originals and charge the new Michelins. About 100$-150$ per tire. Also in your deal the tires (no matter what ones) must be "road force balanced" I'm on my 5th Yukon.

I would argue the seats in the 550 are LESS comfortable than the 4Runner.
I dislike the GX550 more and more everyday. Wish I would have just kept my 4runner.
With Toyota and Lexus, you have FULL control of the lights. Not so with General Motors. With a GM vehicle at each engine start you have to disable the Daytime Running Lights. With Toyota/Lexus, when the light switch is off, it truly means OFF.
I modified my new Tahoe to act like a Toyota/Lexus.
Also, with GM vehicles, you can only have it in accessory mode for 20 minutes. The engine will only idle for 20 minutes. These are problems Toyota's do not possess.
I drove a Toyota Sequoia for years, but the latest version was hybrid only which I did not want. I do like my Tahoe, but I had to "fix it" before I was truly happy.
Many GM vehicles no longer come with Apple CarPlay. Verify with absolute certainty that anything you get from General Motors comes with Apple CarPlay. You might not care about it, but chances are when you go to sell the vehicle. The new buyer won't buy anything without Apple CarPlay.
