unknown at this time.
Common issue. It's not really a problem unless it is dripping and leaving spots on your driveway.

It is not a common issue. Seals and gaskets just fail that is all there is to it.

BTW you remove the half-shaft and pull the seal from the differential and install a new one with the proper seal driver.

Common issue? Sure I price out that job almost daily at work.

But I'd rather tackle a leak when it's small. Once it starts throwing out your diff fluid like crazy, there's always the possibility the front diff was run low on fluid, and has torn up the ring/pinion or other internal parts. So yeah, I'd fix it when it's just starting. No sense in running it till it's pissing fluid out.

What does it usually run if i want to take it to a mechanic?

1.7 hour job if I recall correctly. Seal itself is like something around 20 or 30 dollars. Add a little bit in to top off fluid if it's low. I can look up exact labor time tomorrow at some point from either Service Information or All Data.
