I went to put on the new pads and rotors I had picked up this weekend.
and I ended up not needing to swap them. the ones existing are ugly, but both pads and rotors had a ton of meat on them.
question I have though, I naturally didn't have the right torx bit for the caliper , so I took off the caliper and mounting bracket as a whole.
when I do go in to actually swap parts, is there any good reason to separate them? or can the job be completed with the bracket and caliper in one piece?

Can be done either way. What you've done is perfectly fine. Just make sure to tighten that bracket down with all your strength.

thanks for the input. I did have to compress the piston before putting it back on. I was able to do it with the bracket in place.

if u intend on keeping the truck id recommend new caliper pins that are hex head bolts instead of the torx. they strip.
