Has anyone replaced the output shaft bearings on their front differential? (Axle shaft bearings)

Unless I'm hearing things, my front diff is getting louder and louder. Hubs are Timken and fairly new, noise does not travel with tire rotations. Nobody in the house thinks anything is wrong.

There's a rythmic whomp whomp at around 35-40 that give way to a steady whine at highway speeds. It is not engine load or coasting related or turning related.

Looks like we have to drop the differential and stick it in a vise to pull the bearings and replace them. Definitely not a project for this Florida weather right now.

Changed the oil in my daughter's Kia this morning, actually, I watched and guided, and that alone wore me out for the day, pathetic.

If the diff is whining It might be that the adjusters came loose and if they did everthing looses up shortly after that. You have to open the entire diff to inspect it. You can try changing out the bearings but it may not be the bearings. Good luck.

Its comon for the adjusters to come loose on the GM 8.25 diffs.

I ended up rebuilding my diff for that same issue twice already, the second time I JB weld the locking tabs to the adjusters. Two years later its still holding up.
