Anyone have a suggestion for someone in the Charlotte NC area to repair a noisy front differential on a 2005 Denali? Parks Chevrolet is nearby, quoted me close to $2K to replace with a rebuilt unit. Any independent shops that will actually rebuild it?

Thanks!

Consider having an independent shop install a recycled one? The recycling yards are full of GM full-size of that generation.

Just curious--is that with labor, fluids etc?

That would be fine if I knew a good independent shop that would do it like that, any suggestions?

I believe so, I think they said $1,800 actually but it depended upon if the front diff was limited slip or not. The limited-slip was $100 less, which seemed strange to me and them.
That is strange--better for less $$ imo.

As far as I’m aware no limit slip was ever offered in the GM IFS differential. Does anyone know something I don’t?

Be mindful that most shops -especially dealers with high overhead- try to charge all they can.

Case in point: I went to my nearest dealer and quoted a replacement transmission with the parts guys. MSRP 2500 and my price 1900. I was considering having it installed at an independent shop.

In the end I decided to have the dealer do the labor also. Well, what do you know, when I took it in the service department priced me $2500 for the trans, plus the labor! Of course I told them that was not going to work, so after some background consultation they agreed to honor the previous quote. Caveat Emptor.

Point is be an informed consumer, and you’re in the right place here.

GM parts online shows MSRP 1600 and selling price of 1000 for front diffs.
