Fuel pump?????

So I was doing some errands when I pulled into my dry way to let my dog out. And as I was walking back to my truck as it's idling. Go to get in and it dies. Try to start it and it won't start. Won't start looks at the gas. It was low, got gas in it. It started.
I idled it for a minute.Turn it off. Started it back up and when you go take off Got about 500 feet and it died on me again.And when I went to start it it wouldnt stsrt , could it be the fuel pump

you can check for fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail, should have a black plastic cap on it that looks like a tire valve cap only a smidge larger.
you can push the valve in with a small screw driver or something and see if gas sprays out, wear some eye protection

How low is 'low'. Numbers do matter.
If the gas gauge says under 1/4 tank, the vehicle's vertical / horizontal tilt could pull fuel away from the pump.
In other words, depending on your vehicle's angle, the fuel pump may have run out of gas, not the tank.

I once 'ran out of gas' with 1/4 tank still showing, parked on a steep uphill.
Coasted (backwards) downhill to level out, waited a min, started up with a lil extra cranking.
Sometimes I still wonder if I could've managed a 3point-turn with no engine power.
Maybe pointing downhill would've gotten it started?

Haven't let any tank on any vehicle I've ever driven run under 1/4 since.
Fuel pumps are like fish, they drown in air.

Turn the key without cranking the engine, you should hear the humming of the fuel pump, as it is priming. I have changed 2 fuel pumps on my '97 Yukon. Like other forum members, I would warn against dropping your fuel level below 1/4. Last time my Pump quit, the plastic electrical connector submerged in the tank had melted....
