Anyone got suggestions on this? Yesterday, I went to pick up my girlfriend from work, and turned off the truck. Started the engine about 5 minutes later, and noticed a strong gas smell. On the way home 2 miles away, Noticed the truck was bogging down severely and the gas smell got worse. When I got home, looked under the truck and found gas pouring off the bottom of the tank.

Today, I went tou and lifted up one side of the truck and turned ignition to ON, and watched the fuel pump spray the wheel well with fuel. After a little more inspection, it appears to be coming from the rubber pressure hose at the fitting closest to the fuel pump, but cannot be certain.

Heres the problem; I'm very limited on the height pf the crappy scissor jack the truck has, and dont have access to a good jack. Besides taking the truck in and spending 700$ on repair, is there a way to finesse that tank down to inspect those lines?

Ive also looked for the fuel line diagrams, and cant find any info on if that rubber pressure line is removable, or if it's a permanent part of the entire fuel line up to the fuel filter?

You can drop the tank but it's a heavy mofo. Probably a split hose is what's causing the spray

try and pump out the fuel and drop the tank. get your truck and high as you can and always use jack stands. it would be tight but you can still do it under the truck. it might even help to drop your driveline to give yourself more room to work.

I concur.

Yeah, I can barely see between the frame and the tank the fittings, and it does appear to be the fuel feed line. Now, the trick of the day is finding a replacement. So far, i've gathered this will be a dealer-only item, and hopefully I'll be able to get it same day, this is my daily driver, my one and only.

700$ to drop the tank.... wow.
how full is the tank

Yeah, 700$... And I havent the slightest idea of how much fuel is in the tank, seeing as the needle on my fuel gauge one day decided to spin round and round till it fell off (no joke), so I've been going by the 10mpg rule and gauging with my odometer. I'm gonna venture a guess and say it probably has close to a half tank.

Well, the ordeal is over. I had a scissor jack to support the tank, jackstands on the rear axle, dropped the tank, and..... instead of the feed line being broken, turned out the nipple on the feed side of the fuel pump had a 1 1/2" split in the top of it! So since I couldn't dole out $400 for a Delphi, had to get a Carter for $180, and installed. What made matters worse was while dropping the tank, the nipples on both the feed and return side would NOT disconnect, no matter how much I tried using the "special" disconnect tool, and eventually they came off, with part of the nipple broken off in the hoses! Even after that, I ended up using a combination of flat blade screwdrivers to scrape and dig out the remnants, which were seemingly glued to the inside of the fitting. After all of that, plus splicing in the new wire harness, the re-install went without event. Primed the pump a few times, turned the engine over and fired right up!

The next time the pump goes out, im either gonna find someplace that has lift equipment and buy a Delphi, or I'm selling the damn truck.

Good work... But the sad truth is its a temporary fix... Start saving up for Delphi fuel pump... All others will only last about a year or 2 if ur lucky... I just dropped in the Delphi...

I see Bosh offers a unit to fit most of our rigs. They are well know for the import side, has anyone tried them?
