I had the spare tire out today to check air pressure and measured the spare area for a larger tire. It’s ~ 35 inches front to rear from the suspension crossmember heat shield to the trailer hitch. It’s also ~ 35 inches side to side from exhaust shield to exhaust shield. I think the issue will be tire width, the factory spare already hangs down below the hitch. I have a 2021 high country suburban with 285/50r22 Toyo at3’s on stock wheels, the factory spare is 265/70r17. I am thinking something like a 255/80r17 may be the best bet for matching my existing tire diameter and not being so wide it hangs down and catches on stuff.

Does anyone have an update? I was thinking about purchasing a full size spare as well. Thank you.

Seems like the best approach would just be:
1) take the temp spare down
2) Install temp spare on one of the wheels
3) Attempt to store the removed regular wheel/tire in the spare location.
4) See if it fits, and how much ground clearance it takes up.

I'm interested in the result of this test as well.

Load Range E tires that are similar in size are 285/60/20 so slightly taller and wider than the factory tires.

I just purchased an extra OEM Wheel with a BF Goodrich KO2 275/60/R20 and it does fit in the spare tire spot. This is on a 2022 Z71. Keep in mind, this is my family car, so the only off road it sees is a trail here and there. I’m not sure if it sits too low to do any serious off roading.

I fully expect an OEM size tire to fit in the spare tire spot.

I'm curious whether something wider and taller like a 285/60/20 would fit in that spare tire spot.

Sorry, I was answering the original poster’s question.
Picked up a huge bolt on the way to work today and the tire went completely flat in less than 20 minutes. Currently rolling on a spare.

Anyone able to put a full sized spare in the spare tire well? Was thinking of buying a single PPV steel 20" wheel and seeing if it would fit. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for sharing pictures. I honestly can’t remember the last time I needed to use a spare but I plan to get a matching for my 23’ AT4 now.
