So i just finished my first week of driving the 98 yukon, and driving in general. One thing im noticing is gas. I know generally these cars aren't the greatest on gas milage but if my gas gauge and odometer are right, Im getting 7.9 miles to the gallon.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong. I am a generally slow driver.

The radiator has a crack in it so I have to refill it with water everyday, but im not to sure if that makes a difference.

water is a failsafe for when you have no coolant. get your leak fixed. change some fluids. change your air filter. if your truck is not lifted or anything like that, you should be getting about 11-13 in the city, 14+ on highways. unless you have a 500 horse yukon, you would be getting mpg similar to that. my 94 suburban is lifted, we have extra weight on it and it gets 8 mpg

haha well if your ******* the pedal, that will kill your gas mileage. But do a tune up on it, change the filters (air, fuel and oil), 8 mpgs seems to be pretttyy damn low if you drive slow, shit i get 8-10 and i beat on mine haha

You need to check it with the odometer and the gallons at your next fill up. My gauge is definitely non-linear. When I fill up, it goes way over the full mark and stays there for days. Then once it's past the 1/2 tank mark, you can pretty much watch it go down. On my truck, the 1/2 tank mark is somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of a tank.

As far as your radiator goes, that sucks...it seems pretty common with these trucks. I just threw an all-aluminum 3 core radiator in mine that I got off of ebay for the same price they were selling the plastic ones at O'reilly.

When mine was all stock, I got 13-15 in the city/mixed & 17-19 on the highway.

Normal driving mixed I get 14.5 mpg in Houston TX. Just took a trip to Utah and got an average of 22mpg  once I got to the higher altitude. filled up in Monticello UT drove to Sandy UT then in to the Mountins then back to Monticello befor I had to fill up again.

Yea 7.9 mpg is reallyyy bad. Even driving like a maniac that is pretty hard to get that low. Deffinitally do a tune up like they said and change your spark plugs. My hoe is lifted and I still get about 13 miles to the gallon around town and I deffinitally like to have a little fun with the gas :) and on the gas gauge when mine goes down evenly, but when Im at 1/4 of a tank im driving on fumes.
