Gauges Intermittently Stop Working

I was driving home today and my dash starting dinging at me I look down and none of my gauges were working then a second later it dings again and everything starts working but now I get a service 4x4 and air bag light flashes. What is causing this?

I've heard that odd acting gauges is a common failure. A friend knows of a guy that can fix this for low cost, you probably have a person near you that can do the same. I think the fix involves resoldering some connections. You can probably pull something up by googling on the issue.
