Hate to resurrect a 6 mnth old thread but,my tahoe is in the shop for a rear end rebuild. It's a 2005 Ppv (ex trooper) tahoe,it has the gt4 g80 (3.73).What would be a good all around gear?I'm on the road alot and the 3.73 does Rev the engine a little more ,I rarely tow.How about the 3.42?Maybe 3.23??

3.08 with the 4-speed will be pretty slow and doggy. If the 3.73 is a little high for your liking, try either of those two, the 3.23 being better for cruising on the highway of course.

Your diesel is rpm limited, with gas you get 6K rpm. Stay with 373's or drop 20 percent rpm to 308's but it will be really slow accelerating. I think you have around 170 HP.

Hello - I have a 1995 Tahoe LS 2D 4WD, with a OME gear ratio of 3.73, LT 265/75/16 tires, and I was thinking to change to 33" tires with either LT285/75 or LT255/85. I have 157,200 miles, and the truck runs great. I don't want to lose any power, so any thoughts about a gear ratio change with the larger tires would be appreciated! Thanks

unless your towing near capacity often i wouldnt bother, the expence would be greater than the benefit in most cases. unless your looking for better gears for more power (also lower milage) then i would just leave it.

one tire size like that really dont have too huge an effect. i have done that exact size swap on a couple trucks and only when pulling a trailer at or a little over capacity with my 5.3 for 150 miles did i notice the difference, and being i have made that exact trip with other loads it wasnt that noticeable.

you may however find greater issue getting them to fit without trimming on that bodystyle.
