Lower gear = more low end torque less top end and fuel mileage
higher gear = less torque lower cruising rpm

Gear sets can be offset by a taller tire changing the final drive ratio
I`ve always explained gears to people by comparing them to a 10 speed bicycle.

When you`re in first gear, The largest sprocket. It`s very easy to get going but you can only go so fast because you`re pedaling like crazy. Similar to lower gears like a 4:56. Just not as drastic like first gear on a bike.

If you try to start off in 10th gear, the smallest sprocket, it`s more difficult to get moving similar to higher gears like a 2:73, 3:08 etc.

this is some info from a question i had about gears also hope it helps some atleast

At this point it looks like I'll be able to get that shortly. Got a quote from a guy at work for 4.88's front and rear with Yukon posi lock rear for just under $1000. I'm going to get a second quote to just compare, but so far I'm thinking new 315/75r16 and gears instead of new 20's and tires.

NBS or NNBS

Also 1k parts and labor or 1k labor? Bc if it's parts and labor fir front and rear that's not bad. Around hear your looking at 1,800-2,300 parts labor no center carrier.

NBS, and one of the mechanics at my job (I work for a heavy equipment dealer) does gear work on the side. So I figured it was a pretty good deal, just wanted to double check.

It's $1030, out the door. And I currently have 35's and he recommended 4.56. I had said I thought about going to 37's and he said you should do 4.88 just incase you ever decided to go up.

Have any of yall found an install kit (bearings, seals and what not) or have the part numbers to make this easy? I'm going to have to do mine in phases, rear first then front. I hate to do this and be without 4wd, but gotta do what the pocket will allow. I'll start phase one right after the first of the year. I will be and am running 35's , no plan on going bigger.
