This is about 5k miles of oil that didn't make it into the engine. I would consider this a high priority. 19fb12affb5977f1e4edb3449c14726b.jpg

Ordered a catch can, ball valve, and 3/8" line today.

I'll be doing a rear main seal job soon too :(

Installed the catch can today. Its a nice unit. I'm trying the catch can first before buying a much more expensive new and improved valve cover.
I didn't use the aluminum fittings that came with it. It was too difficult to get 3/8" hose on them. I used plastic fittings. I also installed a ball type drain valve. Internally I added some stainless scrubber material to help drop any liquids out of the air. I mounted the can to the gas spring mount w/self tapping screws and used a wire ty around the drain valve and power brake booster hose to help support the bottom and prevent vibration.
Time will tell?

I added the stainless scrub pad to mine as well and have been collecting about a 1/2 oz. more oil per 5,000 mile drain interval. I'd still like to get that updated valve cover.

Speaking of catch cans, does anyone happen to know off the top of their head the thread size on standard petcock drain valve?

1/8" mpt or fpt ( male pipe thread, female pipe thread)
1/4" mpt or fpt
And so on...

Pick a size, any size.

Mine happened to be 1/4 mpt. I changed out the petcock style to a quarter turn ball valve style. Much easier to drain.
