on december 30th, i placed an order for $930 worth of parts, so i could complete my dod delete work. prior to ordering, i inquired about the estimated lead time for these parts, and i was told 4-5 business days for special order parts to arrive from gm before they are aggregated and shipped to me from NC (i'm in FL).

after checking order status several times, i saw that all the parts were marked "in stock", except for the vacuum pump and valve springs as of start of last week, monday january 13th. come friday january 17th, i felt it was time to follow up about the status of the order. i emailed and called, and got a prompt email reply claiming that "Your full order is set to ship today.". i figured that meant the order had shipped last friday.

now that it's almost the end of the business day on the 23rd, i followed up to confirm that the order was indeed shipped per the claim and get a tracking number. after getting "stan lee" over chat, i was told "I have informed the team . You will receive an update soon via email", so he couldn't/wouldn't/didn't give any insight into what was going on with the order. when i pressed for how long it should take to get a response, he said "You will receive an update within 24-48 business hours via email", which is ridiculous.

i am now at the end of business day *17* from placing the order, with no information about the order status. i am posting this here because i expect many people on this forum either have ordered from here or may consider ordering engine parts from here in the future. should i cancel this order and charge the vendor back? this is the most clownish experience i have had with an online vendor that i can recall in at least the past 15 years.

if i can't get these parts from this vendor, i'm going to be out quite a bit more money for the rental that my wife has been driving this whole time.

i apologize if this is posted in the wrong place, but i figured it was appropriate based on my having ordered parts for a 2020 tahoe engine from this site.

thanks for reading!

I have nothing good to say about GMPARTSDIRECT.com

They completely hosed me on a $600 mirror that was defective. I talked with some guy and the office lady about 8 times and got false promises, empty words. I used PayPal protection and sent them all the calls, emails, and the fact that they said to spend ANOTHER $600 to get a different one, put the old one in the box and return to be "evaluated." Complete BS. PayPal pulled the money back and I ended up getting the glass covered by other means through a friend at a dealership.

$1000 is a lot of money to have tied up for 3 weeks with no eta.

tbh, i never wait that long to reach out to a company if things aren’t shipped within a couple business days. Actually, typically I reach out to vendors within 3 business days(!!!) if I notice an order has not shipped to inquire about the status.

When doing that , instead of asking why hasn’t my order shipped, I always ask if there is a problem with the order, so that they basically have to respond and say yes or no. Usually, the response is similar to what you’ve outlined here, along the lines of “oh, your order is shipping out first thing tomorrow!”

If you’ve waited this long, might as well wait till they email you back at this point, assuming it is actually within 24-48 hours.

If they don’t, perhaps it’s time to think about chargeback/CC dispute.

gmpartsdirect has a LOOOONG history of doing this exact same thing
I would have them ship what they have in stock and cancel the rest and order elsewhere if it is not shipped with a tracking number in 48 business hours then cancel the whole thing
that's my opinion anyway.....

appreciate the input here, and this tracks with what i see elsewhere online, e.g. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/gmpartsdirect.com

i asked them to ship what they had last friday, in hopes of getting my hands on the parts and starting my reassembly, but they claimed they would ship the entire order. guess it's time to demand the parts in stock be shipped and the remainder be refunded.

time to check amazon for availability of these parts in case none of them actually ship.

are there any other vendors where i can get the following parts with a low-ish lead time and not ridiculous price? i've found most of them on amazon with ~1.5 week lead time, but some parts are not available (valve train components)

cam phaser bolt
vacuum pump
balancer bolt
valve springs, spring caps, locks, and seals
head bolts
rockers
valve cover gaskets
exhaust manifold gaskets
vacuum pump belt
intake manifold gaskets

Know it sounds crazy, but could you not just walk into your local GM dealer parts counter and buy the components ?

I have bought hard to find parts from the parts counter before as a walk in customer. Of course stuff was never in stock but never took too long to get ‘em in. Albeit not necessarily engine components.

Yeah they charge you out the hoo hah but. . . (i know *not* ridiculous price was a stipulation, but sometimes got to do what you’ve got to do)

Have you checked out rockauto.com? I’d imagine they would have these parts in stock for you. They’re very reputable and shipping is always pretty efficient. Prices are decent and they’re a supporting forum vendor here so there’s usually a thread with updated discount codes. It’s not usually big discounts but usually enough to take down the tax charges on the items a bit which is always a plus. I’ve ordered many OEM parts from them and it’s always a pod experience. A couple times they sent me wrong parts and I had to source correct parts elsewhere when the truck was already torn apart and I needed to be able to get it up and running and they accepted return parts, with no hassle. In those cases I overnighted the part back to them and within a couple business days of the part being returned to them they issued a full refund.

I've used Tasca and a few other online places before with good luck.
All the GM type sitws are normal dealers that sell online so in some cases the delay is at the warehouse side. Then of course some places are slow in general with their shipping and others might be quick if they have the part in stock.
