Sometimes when going down a hill the Grade Braking Assist message comes up on the infocenter.
However, I don't feel it do anything to the truck. It doesn't downshift, slow, anything.

I have tried several times to get it to come on- riding the brake for 10 seconds, stepping on the brake suddenly, pumping the brakes. It only seems to come on 'when it wants to'.
And then when it does I don't notice anything different with the engine/transmission anyway.

My 16 SLT maintains a certain RPM and sometimes down shifts. I definitely feel it , especially the down shift.

Does this occur when it says 'Grade Braking Assist' on the infocenter?

10-4. It comes on when I'm riding my breaks to maintain a speed down hill. I live on a hill so I feel it everyday I drive down it.

Mine works great. I haven't paid any attention to how it's slowing (wether it's purely a gear drop or a brake assist which I doubt)

How do you activate it? Hard braking for 5 seconds downhill...?
I can never seem to get mine to apply when I want it to.

Mine just comes on. No idea if there is a setting. I hate to be "that guy" but is there a section on it in the owners Manual for the truck? It might say after this and this then the hill assist comes on.

I do remember the dash lets me dismiss it by using the button on the steering wheel

Mine works but sometimes, I get this nasty jerk forward. I swear it can't be good for the transmission.

The work van I had would rarely come on. Could never get it when I wanted. But yea it down shifted when it did kick in

Did some quick searching, looks like 2013+ the computer reads brake temp and forces a downshift

I've found that "Grade Braking Assist" comes on anytime I'm riding the brakes down a hill. When the vehicle is empty it's barely noticeable. When I'm trailering, the down shift is evident and will maintain about 2,500 - 3,500 RPM depending on the grade I'm coming down and what I'm towing.

We just came back over Snoqualmie Pass (3,022 ft elevation) and I was able to let off the brakes and cruise down at 65 mph. I appreciated this feature.
