Grinding noise in 1st gear - 2007 Denali

Transmission appears to work fine but it's grinding when slowing down or taking off. The noise goes away above 10mph.
Seems like it's the AWD component that's failing?

It cannot coast, something is strongly rubbing and it slows down.

2007 Denali with 200K miles

Get it on a lift at a local garage and get the wheels off the ground, and with a person in the truck, put it into gear. A mechanic with a stethoscope can walk around under the truck and pinpoint the area where the noise is coming from. Then, you can figure out what to do to eliminate the source of the noise.
