I'm getting a growling noise in four wheel drive. Makes no difference whether I'm going straight or turning in time. It is in 4 wheel DriveMode. The noise is there. The noise goes away as soon as I go back into two wheel drive.

Unfortunately, might be your front diff. Have you changed the oil in that or your transfer case recently? This came up recently in another thread, hope it points you in the right direction.

Check your front bearing hubs for excessive play. When in 4wd the hubs get loaded up pretty good by the Tcase and thats when they will growl when in early stages of excessive wear. Jack front end up of the ground just enough where tires clear the ground. Grab each front tire at 9 and 3 oclock position and rock tire from left to right. Then grab at 12 and 6 position and rock tire up and down. If the hubs are worn you will feel it.
