What brand are you running? I had crappy DDM stuff and had drilled two big ass holes in the housing to get some air in there and it still melted.

It's not really about brand. It's more of bulb type. And how it sits in the housing.

I use a 9005 bulb. It's a Chinese made bulb that many of the better hid brands use. It's a gsp bulb. ( that's the abbreviation of the Chinese name of the factory). It has a full ceramic base. The ceramic base absorbs most of the heat that sits at the base of the bulb. You ultimately want the bulbs base to be flush with the inside of the reflector and the ceramic base to be slightly further out to dissipate heat. These fixtures melt because the heat rises improperly too close to the reflector. There is a small breather hole above the bulb. If the bulb sits properly it will release the heat. Btw take off the rubber cover to the breather hole. Don't worry water won't get inside. I can take pics if need be.

I do allot of these installs and do many many silverados avalanches Ect. I have burned up many a persons housing before I got it right. I have used 880. H1. H11. 9006 H16. All different types before I found the perfect storm.
