PDR is good if the guy doing the pdr is good. Dents dont come back. Panel replacement is up to them. Not really you. Its hard to say much, b/c the agents do what they have to unelss they are cool but then its up to the body shop. In other words if a fender is $100 brand new, but to pdr the fender is $200 bucks, they are going to use new and if its anything like here, its not going to be GM new for instance, its going to be new aftermarket. That you can push for. Roof- try pdr or fix, dont replace, it will never be right.

For your options if totalled, buy it back and fix it yourself, or let them have it and get a check for what they think its worth and get another vehicle.

Maybe i missed it, but what kind of vehicle do you have? If its only one side, may not be totaled, but breaking out glass and all that, you probly have some big dents on it. So hard to say w/o seeing it.

Also look into your state laws. Here I can take my vehicle into any bodyshop I choose, no matter what my insurance co. wants me to do. This is where you can tell the bodyshop you want new panels, and they'll figure that into their bid.

The bodyshop I took my GTP to when I totaled it refused to put non-OEM parts back on it because they are a GM dealer and they warranty their work. Tells me a lot if they refuse to use aftermarket because they ended up doing way to much warranty work. (He said mostly paint issues, but fitment can be a huge issue also.)
The insurance adjuster was fine with OEM parts, hell, his estimate came in $1K higher than the bodyshop after he looked the car over.

Great point! Here in MO you can choose where you want your vehicle repaired, BUT I have had numerous friends and family all say the insurance company was telling them they had to take it to certain places. In MO, this is not true and the insurance company wasn't lying, saying they "had to", but rather not telling the owner it is their choice and being difficult when not taken to a shop of their choice. I'm guessing insurance companies get discounts at shops they have agreements with, but not 100% sure.

Also, be nice to the adjuster, but let him know up front what your expectations are, it might help fix or total the vehicle if its close. Many people out there aren't very picky or know what they are looking at when their vehicles are repaired, so the body shop and insurance company gets away with shoddy work. So you can just politely let him know your vehicle was in nice shape, and you are going to expect the same after repairs.

Laws vary state by state, and insurance companies all have their own policies...but it's very likely they will do the estimate and cut you and your lien holder a check OR you and your shop a check. That way the ins company is guaranteed to get the repairs completed. PDR guys are good, a good one is worth their weight in gold....take a good hard look at the paint when it's done under artificial light, if you notice anything like tiny waves, ask him to color sand it (wet sand with 2000grit, then polish)

Never heard about them coming back, doubtful...especially with the thick GM steel on these tahoes.

Sorry to hear about the Jetta. I assume the tahoe isn't? That's cool.

No the tahoe is not totaled. I plan on installing Yukon 4.56 gears & a Yakama roof rack with some of the money & fix most of the tahoe with the rest.
