Crossbreed makes a holster just for this type of application. It uses a velcro mating surface on the back of the holster and then adhesive backed velcro for the part that mounts to something. They include enough velcro for two different mounting locations, although, I have been happy with mine where it is. FYI - I have an M&P 9c which fits perfectly. My full size M&P 9 does not fit in this spot:

OP: My truck is in the shop, so no pics right now. Anyway. I had an unused safari land holster I chopped up and screwed into the bucket in the center console. I can lock it and my gun fits perfectly. I will try and get a pic later.

I put a gun there because, even though I still carry on my person, it would be hard to get to it while belted in. I just flip the lid to the console and I have the gun if I need it.

You get pretty used to it, but im starting not to wear my seat belt anymore since the gun is harder to get to with it on. If im going for a long drive ill just put my gun on the console/in the console.

Cops can be assholes though if you keep the gun in the glovebox or console if you have people in your car without a ccw. Just be aware what your doing. Havnt gotten pulled over yet with my ccw license and dont plan on it either! im sure the cop will shit a brick once i say the word gun :shooter:

I don't know how the law is in Ohio, but in CO your car is an extension of your home so you don't need a CCW while in your car. Do you happen to know how the law is worded in Ohio?

As for telling the cop, if you aren't a shall tell state (meaning a state that requires you inform the police that you have a gun) you don't have to tell them. I wouldn't go that route personally. I would rather have someone tell me they have a gun and where it is at. Lets me know they aren't hiding things and are being honest. I will leave the gun be and have you leave your hands on the wheel. That is just me and not all though, so ymmv.

well putting it in your car is technically called "Concealing". But ohio you can openly carry without a ccw, but once it enters the car you need to take the ammo and put it in the trunk or take the gun in the trunk and have them located in 2 different locations.

Keeping ammo in the magazine is also called loaded and which is a noo noo for someone without the ccw.

Don't say anything.
Hand over your license, insurance and CCW cards at the same time. Then put hands directly back on steering wheel.
Let the CCW do the talking for you. He is less likely to take, " I have a gun" as a threat and less likely you will have one pointed at you.

Think about why you would be carrying in your car. The mounts in the consoles work great to secure the weapon, but any confrontation by someone with a gun will not give you a chance to open your console and draw your gun. Find or make a mount that fits between the seat cushion and the console so any movement to undo your seat belt can conceal the motion as your access your firearm (right handed). Or on the left side mounted to the seat frame. Nobody would see it.

I prefer to carry mine on my hip in a Kydex holster with a finger release lock. I used to have a belly band and it was just uncomfortable. I carry a S&W M&P .40, smaller version to my duty weapon, I also carry it as a back-up on my vest. I train with it on my hip so I keep it on my hip. Quick to grab and quick to use. No moving clothing or digging for it. Most of the time I can brush my tacket back and draw. If it's warm outside and no jacket then I can lift my shirt and draw in one motion.

Ohio has laxed there CCW laws about carrying in a vehicle. If you are a CCW holder then the rules for protection in your vehicle is the same as your residence.

I'm looking for something to mount it on the console just as you speak. And not in it. If it locked I might put it in it just for kicks but whatever. I have a cheap nylon holster that I want to mount there and just leave in the vehicle. But still no luck finding a solution yet.
