I use these Pro-Lift 6 ton jack stands and they use a pin that slides in a hole and keeps the movable arm from ratcheting back, keeping the teeth of each completely engaged with no chance of slippage if load slips/shifts.

Very similar to the ones that I have from Northern Tool. Have had them for 6 years or so and have been very with them.

I returned my 6-ton jacks back to HF, but they only gave me a gift card, not a replacement. The new 6-ton jacks cost $10 more.
