Has GMC Denali Name become too common?

Crazy. I’ve never heard anyone say they drove a [insert trim level]. Maybe a regional difference or something. Where I am people respond with their model not trim. Do people that own a terrain with Denali trim answer the question with ‘Denali’ too or just yukon owners?
I personally don’t do it, and don’t think it goes for a lot of other cars, I have just noticed specifically when people talk to me about my yukon they call it a denali, not a yukon at all, and if i say denali referring to my pickup they are always confused. It’s almost like they think the model name of a yukon is a denali, like they think theres tahoes, denalis, and escalades.

Odd take on this. I never thought about it, but I call mine a Denali. Yukon just sounds odd to me. Now my wife's vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) we call a Jeep. I used to have a Pontiac G8 GT which I called the G8 while some people I knew who had the GXP model called their's GXP's.
To me a Denali is exactly what we drive. I can't see the name being used to describe the other Denali models. Odd, but just the way I see it.

[QUOTE="2011SSVHOE, post: 1177663, member: 55594" Ok here's another flip flop for you. Remember Back in the 60's you had the Impala and then in 66 they came out with the Caprice, Nicer trim and more goodies and a bigger price. Cop cars were Impala's. now a Cop car is a Caprice and an Impala Is a overpriced nice car.[/QUOTE]

Back in 60's the NYPD were patrolling the streets in the Biscayne..My family had a fleet of Bel Airs..They were very good trouble free cars.

I call my Denali "the truck". My wife still calls it "the car".

So interesting. I’ve never called a car by a trim level especially if the trim is used on multiple vehicles like denali is.

Interesting though since maybe there is room for another brand of people are already considering it a brand vs. trim level.

We call both the Sierra and Yukon "the truck" at home. Every now and then we will call the Yukon "the Denali". I have yet to hear anyone say Yukon, whether it be at the dealership, someone giving it a compliment or family and friends talking about it.

Really? So when you went to the dealer to buy it you said ‘can you show me which Denalis you have on the lot?’ and he knew you weren’t taking about a Terrain, Acadia or Sierra? Or when you walk up to the accessory window and ask ‘how much are the floor mats for the Denali?’ (Assuming they don’t know you or your truck) they quote you the price for the yukon?

I told the salesman we wanted an XL and he knew I meant a Yukon. Ive gone to the dealership twice since buying it. Once to pick up my house key I forgot with the trade in and the other to pick up my plates and I saw him both times. Both times he asked how's the "Denali"

Ah ok. So the first time you said ‘xl’ and after that he knew what you had.

That makes more sense.

Wasn’t Yukon the first/original Denali? Maybe that’s why people still think of the Yukon (XL) as “the Denali”. I think afterwards GM’s marketing department decided to spread the success to their other lines.
