Has GMC Denali Name become too common?

I can afford my Yukon Denali. I wrote a check that prepaid my entire lease for the entire team of the lease.

Did you get a discount when you did this?

Not tryin to really get into this thread but I will say this, everybody I run into says the same thing, calls the yukon a denali, but never thinks my truck is.

Same, I just say Yukon because I thought saying Denali was pretentious. A barber asked me one day what I drove, I replied, a Yukon. He sees my truck and says, that’s a Denali. Why are you selling yourself short? Lol. I don’t want to sound like a douche.

Wasn’t Yukon the first/original Denali? Maybe that’s why people still think of the Yukon (XL) as “the Denali”. I think afterwards GM’s marketing department decided to spread the success to their other lines.

Maybe yeah. But does that happen to other trims? Does anyone say they drive an ‘LT’ instead of saying ‘Tahoe’?

Nope, you’re right, they don’t. Denali is special. [emoji846]

LTZ or Z71 are the ‘most specialist’ of Tahoe’s though...wonder if those guys call them by trim level...?

I’m not positive but would guess no. However I have never once heard someone mention trim level in response to the question, “what kind of car do you have?” for any vehicle, except a Denali. For example if some says they have a Tahoe, or Suburban, or Yukon, they’ll never mention trim level like “LT”, “SLT” etc. ....unless it’s a Denali. Then for sure, they will always include “Denali” in the name. They may not call it only “Denali” (without including Yukon etc), but you can be sure that the Denali name will ALWAYS at least be included in the name, such as “Yukon XL Denali”. In other words someone who drives this vehicle would never ever say they have a Yukon XL without adding on the name Denali to it. Just my observation.

Which also leads me to believe that GM/GMC has created something special with their Denali line.

I always say yukon when asked. To me, telling someone my trim level seems odd.

Either gmc has created something special or they are attracting a ‘special’ type of person that must disclose their trim level when asked what they drove. Either way it’s an interesting discussion.

A couple things that come to mind.
Back in the day all one had to say was GT and everyone knew what that was= Mustang GT.
I have heard guys at shows refer to their Mercedes' as merely AMG's.
I mentioned before that when I went to Pontiac G8 meets, there were guys that referred to their cars as GXP's.
And one of my favorite cars, and I'm dating myself, was none other than the IROC. No one said Chevrolet Z28 IROC.

And yes, the Yukon was the first Denali.

Were there other fords that uses the GT trim? What about GXP’s or IROC trims?

If not then it kinda sorta makes sense. Still doesn’t explain why nobody says they drive an LTZ...?

I could see someone saying ‘my AMG’ if it was about something specific to that trim. Ie: my AMG wheels are a fortune to fix when I scuff them. In those scenarios where things are common across a trim it would make more sense to mention trim than model.
