I never got to taking pictures. However, I tried adding a 1/16" fender washer between the latch plate and liftgate. This has the effect of holding the window glass slightly tighter against the rubber seal. The window now pops open as the old one did when pressing the button. I could perhaps have tried adjusting the glass hinge bolts at the top of the liftgate, but I think this solution will work just fine.
Update: I measured the length of the striker on the window glass. On the new glass, the length of the striker is about 1/16" longer. This is why adding those fender washers to the latch to pull the latch back by 1/16" worked.
