Have you swapped your 20s for 22s?

I'm struggling, more than I should, with the decision on my wheels. I have an LT with the 20" polished silver wheels, which are one of my least favorite things about the truck.

It's Tungsten, and I really do think it needs black wheels. Here's the struggle:

I appreciate the low maintenance that the 20" wheels provide. Sidewalls are tall enough that curb rash is not inevitable, tires are a little less $$, to my eyes the wheels aren't notably undersized. I might be able to black powdercoat the existing wheels and be done.

Undoubtedly, the 22" wheels look better, both from the side and from the back where the slightly wider tire and slightly more aggressive wheel offset does show up. Ride quality may suffer.

So - who has made the switch from 20s to 22s? Glad you did? Wish you hadn't?

An additional option is a 295/50 or 305/50 tire on the 20" wheel, which would probably look nice and beefy. Either would be within 1% of the same rolling radius.

If you're on the fence then you already know your eye prefers the 22" wheels. Throw on the 22's and keep the air pressure around 35psi. The ride isnt gonna be much different but the look is gonna improve immensely. These truck bodies are screaming for 22-24" rims.

I see what you're saying but where I come from, if you have to think about it...the answer is usually no.

So for the OP don't let me not unlikely, unlike the likelyness of the likelyness you likely buy new rizims

I always go to this tire calculator for reference and studied the heck out of it when I jumped from 16 to 20 to 24 in my 06.

Granted different body style, but I drive the 2015+ alot as rentals for work. The 20s work, but the larger tire makes that body style. 22s are OEM on Escalades already and 24s look at home.

When you look at the measurements, there isn't that much differnce between the 20s and 22s. Nearly 1" in sidewall is the biggest tradeoff, however the aesthetic look you will gain IMO exceeds the smaller tire. The ride will not suffer that much. 24s are a bit more in touch with the road, but guys are rolling 26s daily too.
Good luck on your choice. Form and function are colliding, Just my .02 to go bigger.

Just a thought if you want to TEST the black wheel look of your current 20 without damaging of fully committing to that change. Spray them with Plasti-Dip black & see what they look like. DON'T scuff or sand to prep them, just clean real good & then shoot directly on the wheel - use a good 3-5 thinner coats to create a decent thickness (aids in easier peeling later). Overspray on the tire will peel right off so there's no need to mask. Run them a few days to see if you like the look. No matter what, you can peel the Plasti-Dip off without any damage.

lot of factors:
-resale value of your OEM 20's to someone with an older body style (esp if you leave TMPS installed)
-cost of new rims, tires & TPMS.
-all the options: take out your TPMS & re-use, new vs used 22's, new vs used tires (local guy had a set of new 22's for $560 last week)

as for tire cost, the 22's will prolly drop down. it seems OEM sizes get pretty cheap when enough manufacturers ramp up to meet the demand, so in a few years, the 22's will be as cheap as 20's. there are 3 free 20" tires laying around the storage unit up here, nobody even took them

the size of 20" did not annoy me, so much as the pathetic OEM styling.
we ended up with some OEM 22's that look pretty good, so I am happy.

but if you think you 20's are ugly, then you gotta make the step up....

Great idea, though I've seen the exact same Tahoe in the wild with black 22" style 34 wheels, and I know for sure it looks fantastic:

What I might conceivably do is powdercoat my OEM wheels and see if I can use them as a winter set with snow tires on them.

I think those of you who said or implied that I'll either get 22s or try to talk myself out of it are probably right. I should just get them. Now onto the topic of whether or not to risk replicas. I had a bad experience with reps on a BMW once, but admittedly they were cheap reps from an eBay-only source.

Just wanted to add that black wheels tend to look smaller. I had 20" black with machined lip Torq-Thrusts on my S10 and everyone thought they were 18s. Some even guessed 17s. I thought at least the machined lip would help them look as big as they actually were, but apparently not.
