If your going to have it that far apart, why don't you put some new rings and bearings in it alone with a cam and lifters and timing set. Sound like your going to have to have your heads checked out and possibly replace them.

I would love to do that much. I have been testing waters for pricing on small low end torque cam and lifters along with timing set(emailed comp cams). I have talked to a local ls guy (golen engines) about checking the heads, because I do feel they may have warped a bit. I have read mixed reviews on them if anyone has any experience. If at all possible I would like to keep main bearings alone becuase that opens another can of worms with rod bolts and stretch torquing and all that. And I could prob by a brand new atk long block for similar money it would cost to have a professional shop re-do bottom end. Obviously if cylinders are worn or scorn that avenue will be explored. What is compression (psi)on a healthy lq4. I was told 175 is good???
But like everyone else it all comes down to money..

Had the heads pressure tested found valve seals bad. Seals and valve job later passed pressure test. Was told by machinist the heads were not bad as far as warping but he took .005 off of each head to make sure they were perfectly flat. Getting closer to get this back together

You're impressive. I have a ways to go but hope I can tear down an engine like you in the future. (good thing I have a backup car)

More posts and pictures please!

haha thanks. fortunately, i have spare as well. honeslty this is my first time this deep into motor with more than one cylinder haha. have built many small engines and quads, just never had to go this deep in car motor. top end stuff isn't bad its when you start messing with bottom ends it can get a little overwhelming and one small error can be quite costly/catastrophic.
I will try to keep this thread update as it progresses. working nights and having a two year old at home, o ya and the money im dumping into the truck while its aparts slows progress a bunch.
