Hello! :) Names Tori from Tampa and I've had my 2006 Tahoe LT since the end of 2018 and love it. Always wanted a Tahoe, but ended up with Jeeps, but after a couple of issues :doh2: I moved onto Chevy. It's been a great truck so far..I bought it with almost 150K miles and I'm getting ready to drop a rebuilt 5.3L in it. Needs some work, but he's mine and I'm excited

Welcome from Louisiana, formerly from Plant City.

Why does it need a new motor already?

Welcome to the forum from Oregon. Yes, pics please and like @iamdub said, why does it need a new engine? You can't just throw a statement like that out there and think we will let it slide!

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Thank you for the tips!! I will get to it.

I bought it in August of 2018 and it has lifter tick I tried a few things that had been suggested to quiet it down and nothing worked. Originally my husband and I were going to take it apart and replace the lifters, but I have a regular customer that comes to my job frequently that had a motor in a crate that he had no use for. Offered to help rebuild and drop it in for $100 so my husband told me to go for it and get any parts needed from work.

How bad was the lifter tick? What did you try? Hopefully you got it for good price.

What all have you tried? Are you 100% sure it's a lifter tick? I'd hate to see a perfectly fine engine be thrown away, even just for a bad lifter. If the engine is sound otherwise (no oil burning, good compression, etc.), lifter replacement is a one day job in the driveway. Plus, you get to keep your engine that you know some history of.

Have you ruled out exhaust leak, particularly at the manifold from broken bolt(s)?
