I recently purchased a 2003 Tahoe and the ac compressor won’t kick on. I can turn it on by jumping the relay and get it to kick on so I know that it works. It has a a small leak around the evaporator core but is it me or am I just missing something?

If there's a leak in the system and if all the freon--or is below the minimum--has leaked out the compressor won't kick on. Are you sure it has a leak where you stated? Evaporator core in the dash?

Yes, it’s from the evaporator core in the dash but it’s leaking at the firewall. I sprayed with some soap water and saw the bubbles. I know that’s probably not the preferred method but it’s all I had at the moment. I also made sure to closely inspect and make sure it wasn’t the lines leaking and it isn’t.

I just replaced mine, also an 03. Instead of removing the dash, I found a hack to replace it on YouTube. It took my son and I about 2 hrs taking our time.

Yeah, I’ve found a hack on that as well and plan on doing that. I just hope I don’t have an electrical issue hopefully it’s just the Freon in so low it won’t kick on.
