I received my replacement ECM in the mail today. The truck wouldn't start so I preformed the security relearn. I followed the directions to the letter and used a timer to make sure that all times were correct. After the third cycle I tried to start the truck and it just cranked over. The security light now comes on only for a couple seconds and then goes off. What do I do? I need to drive the vehicle this afternoon. Can I put my old ECM back in? Will I need to do a security relearn?
Thank you,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

The biggest problems people have are:

1. Not waiting enough time. It's always better to wait longer than not, or
2. Not having the key in the propoer position in the ignition.
Also need to ensure everything is turned off (lights, stereos, etc.).

It should also be noted that if one of the cycles gets messed up, it starts the cycle count all over. For example, if a mistake is made in cycle number 2, then it kicks you back over into cycle number 1.

You can put your old ECM in. Since the relearn hasn't been performed, you will not need to perform it for the stock one, however there is a chance you may need to.

Hope this helps!

Julie,
I will try it again. I used a timer and made sure that I waited at least 10 mins. for the security light to turn off, and then at least 45 seconds to 1 min with the key out of the ignition then I attempted to start it each time in between cycles. I had the parking brake set so that it would turn off the daytime running lights. I just remembered the the radio was on but the volume was turned to 0. The radio will affect the the relearn? Should I disconnect it all together?
Thank you,
Kyle

Jenna,
Everything seems to be working now. I was afraid that I would not be able to drive the truck home today so I installed my old ECM and the truck started right up but ran rough so I shut it off, removed my old ECM and installed the BB ECM. My truck fired right up and ran rough for a second and then smoothed out. I took it out for a test drive and it runs much better than with the automatic transmission tune. ( I tore out my 4l60e and installed an NV4500). The service engine light is on; so I'm guessing that I am throwing the crank relearn codes.
I will have a buddy of mine with a scan tool/otc pull the codes and to the relearn tonight.
Thank you,
Kyle

Well I preformed the Crank relearn and I am very satisfied! The truck runs better that ever and Justin removed all of the automatic transmission codes. This was the final piece to my manual transmission swap and you guys made it easy!
Thank you Black Bear Performance.
