2015 Chevy Suburban LT

Door ajar light kept staying on for rear driver's side door. Door functioned fine and locked and unlocked, so I took the door apart and replaced the latch assembly (where the door ajar sensor is housed).

While this didn't work, it was functioning fine.

I put the door panel back on, and closed the door. Tried to open it and it won't open. not from the inside not from the outside. The lock mechanism locks and unlocks (have it in the unlocked position), but I'm guessing the door latch cable that attaches the handle to the latch came loose some how when I put the panel back on.

Now the door is closed and handles will not operate latch. I cannot get to the bottom 7mm nut to get that lose, but even if I could, I can't get a trim tool on the sides of the door panel - so I have no access to the inside of the door to release the latch.

HELP!!!

Do the seats fold up enough to get there? Have you tried rolling the window down to get access through the top to the mechanism? I think this is the route a locksmith would go. If that’s tight remove the rubber seal along the top of the panel that’s against the glass. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the response - this is a bit of a weird one... the external and internal door handles worked just fine before I started the car, but then after i put it all back together and started the car, the rear drivers side act as though it was locked. I assumed i jacked something up with attaching the latch cable to the handle mechanism, but then I realized that they are two separate cables and there's no way "serendipitously" the two both fell out, so I did a few more tests.

The first test I did was trying to unlock and lock the door electronically. The door lock indicator on the top of the door functioned as expected (going up when it was unlocked and going down when locked).

The next test I did, which was more telling, was that when I locked the doors but used the interior door handle, the door lock popped up. This is normal operating behavior, as the interior door is supposed pop the lock if it's locked without child lock on.

I then assumed that there was a chance that there was an electronic issue with the child lock, which in this car (2015 Suburban LT) is controlled by an electronic button on the driver's side door. Actuating the button resulted in a click in all 4 doors. Deactivating did the same (including the malfunctioning door). Neither unlocked nor locked (child lock) resulted in being able to open the door inside or outside. With child lock on, I hear a cable moving in the door from the inside - from the outside I do not hear a cable moving.

I cannot move the window down or up (suspect this is because the wiring harness (despite visual inspection) is malfunctioning in some way or another), and I can't move the door panel as the door is closed and the panel is enclosed within the door jamb and the door frame...

Feel super stuck!
