in my 07 Tahoe with Bose I upgraded to a stock 07 nav/dvd unit. I now have a ground loop whine whenever the unit is on, it doesn't matter what volume its at, but I here this wine during accleration. I can turn off the unit and the whine goes away. I've tried regrounding items and nothing fixed it. Today, I put the stock 6 disk non nav, non dvd unit back in it and the whine is gone. Tried the nav unit and the whine is back.

So, could the whine be something wrong with the head unit? If it whines with one from a faulty ground shouldn't it whine with the other unit?

help, I appreciate anyones knowledge on this.
Thanks,

That means it's 100% a problem inside the unit. Bad solder, loose wire, something inside the deck is messed up. Options are to either send it off or a local repair shop to get fixed, or a new unit.

Yup. It's not one of those super cheap HU's is it?

It's a factory Nav/DVD unit. So you guys think it has to be in the head unit because when I put the stock unit in it doesn't whine? Does it make since that when I unplug the antenna from the Nav/DVD unit the whine stops also?

Honestly if it's just the head unit causing the problem and I can get it fixed or replace it with a one that works as it should... I'll be ok with that.

Do you know of anyone that can troubleshoot and repair the head unit I have? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The outside wire/shield/whatever is a ground. It's probably THAT connection inside the Nav unit that's giving you the problem. Best thing to do is go on craigslist and search for radio repair or call a local stereo shop and see if they know anyone

Yeah, that enforces it's the HU. You could try grounding the HU chassis elsewhere, but more than likely it will have to be taken apart to resolder whatever joint is broken.

I swapped in a new head unit dvd/nav/with USB. It still whines. A friend of mine suggested grounding the radio chassis with a screw and then grounding it to the frame, fireway, etc.... to ensure a good ground. Any thoughts guys? Is it worth the time to do it?
