Hi folks, Its been a while since i have been on here.

Here's the deal. I have a 2000 chevy tahoe 4x4. I have loved the truck, its got around 135k miles and still runs great. I live in an area that has snow for about 4-5 months out of the year , so 4x4 has been great.

I recently had my first child, a son. And I stangely have the urge to want a newer crossover suv, for safety and gas mileage , etc. Rav 4 or somthing similar. The issue is that i am upside down on my auto loan and realistically should pay this car off in the next couple years before i think of a new suv. But I just need someone to talk some sence into me. ..... Someone say, "you don't need some small suv, your tahoe is a good safe vehicle as long as you take care of it".... and some other stuff. lol.

Help... I want to get these ideas of "Needing" a new car out of my head.

Thanks in advance! :)

Rav 4???!!!:gayflag::supergay::893Chainsaw-Smilie-:laughing1::idiot::buttkick::buttkick::buttkick:.....one those suck two there defiantly less safe..maybe better on gas but less safe(size wise)..... get a cold air intake and a blackbear tune to wake it up and maybe replace your shocks if you havent already and a new muffler if you dont want to do a cat back ;)

Hoes rule just gotta wake um up...plus when you go on a family trip those kids are gonna get big and your gonna jam them in a small clown suv to save some mpgs:shocked:

Agree, get a tune and it will feel like a new truck. Mine is the same age, only paid for. I'm going to gut the suspension and put new wheels on it. Mod bug > new car bug! These trucks age well and I plan to have it for a while. 6 liter will make it's way in one day. Plus mine looks just like yours!

When you have a kid you're going to NEED the room your Hoe offers you. Believe me a RAV4 or most other "crossovers" are not going to be nearly big enough when it comes to piling people in along with strollers, groceries, diaper bags,.... Especially when you get to more than one kid. Keep the Hoe and you'll be very happy that you did :waytogo:

All I have to add to this is for the safety factor.

We recently traded the wife's 2008 Kia Sportage in on our her Yukon Denali. Now the Sportage DID get better mileage, but I was shocked when the insurance premium dropped as a result of the trade. Small SUV's may get good safety marks for "Their Class" of vehicle, but the larger SUV I guess is just that much safer.

My brother and sister in law have to youngsters (1 and 3) and they bought a minivan. When they were looking I told them for the same money, you can get a full size truck that has way more room, can tow, way better resale. I also told them they probably only get 3-5 more mpgs than a full size.
My Denali was parked next to their van, and my sister in law said "wow, look at all the room in there, we could sure use that". They are planning for a trip with the kids, and talking about getting a hitch installed. Load that van down to all shit, and I bet you it gets the same MPG as a full size with the same cargo. In the end, they like the van which is nice, but I think they are regretting not getting something bigger.

As far as the going for the newer vehicle IMHO when you're 2 yrs away from owning yours outright makes me think you would rather pay higher pmts including ins for what ? I am of the mindset that no payment is a great thing. I love my 94 and will not part with it for anything. You're closer to that now than starting over again. Your Hoe looks like its got a lot of life left in her and they aren't the worst vehicle for safety. I say keep it till its yours and then see.

I bought my kon 2yrs ago from original owner so he could get a rav4. He was singing the same song about mileage and all. Now it's hard for him to transport his family in such a small vehicle that I think he wishes he never sold me the truck. He even told me the story about when the 2009 tsunami hit our islands, he was blocked in a traffic jam. All he did was to shift in 4WD and climbed over some obsticales on the road shoulder and charged straight up a mountain to save himself and his daughter. Most of the vehicles that stayed on the road that day were washed away and lives were lost.

I will forever be greatful to him for selling me his kon.

I'm pretty sure I've seen your truck driving around, it looks so familiar!! I'd say get the BB tune next month and keep the truck, you will love it sooo much more!! I love my truck, I'm in the same boat in that I don't dare get rid of it because I would lose soooo much by doing so, so instead I've done alot to it and gonna keep it till I run the wheels off of it!! :)
thanks for the input Rivieraracing. i am in southern oregon. i live in the same town as the post after yours. lol. he may have seen my truck for sure. LOL!

A Tune is well worth the money and it will wake your Tahoe up nice.
I have not had the chance to tune my Tahoe yet but i will one of these days. I might be able to make it up to the Portland BB tune but IDK yet.

BTW where do you live in Oregon?
Yo, whats up Dan. it appears we live in the same town. ha ha. lol!

It sounds like that tune is the way forward. :) ... any way , thanks for the input. see ya around. ;)

Oregon, what more convincing do you need bro? Besides, a Rav 4 is too small for me and my family of 4. I love the room I have in my yukon and after my BB tune two months ago I just love the way she handles, shifts, get up and go etc etc. DON'T do it, keep her, she looks nice and clean.
I don't need much more convincing. :)

and i appreciate everyone for chiming in. it really helps. and thanks for the complimant on my "clean" ride. :)

x2 on the burb or XL
thanks guys.

I plan on only having 1 child. I got the son i wanted... i can't risk having a girl on the next one. lol. .... I don't want to get that knock on the door when my doughter is 13-16 years old saying, "uh, is your doughter home". lol.

so 1 wife, 1 son, and 1 dog... we should all fit in a Tahoe. :)

Good Points. ... My Insurance on my Tahoe and our Nissan Altima are dirt cheap (and for full coverage).

Thank you Tri94!

Your right. i have kept my tahoe in good shape. and i should keep a good thing going. ... Its nice to know the ins and outs of your own car also. .. When you get a new (used) car, its like you have to figure out all of the things the seller didn't tell you. lol

By the way. about 5-6 years ago I had a 2003 Chevy Silverado. I had a "Hypertech III Programmer" hooked up to it and a valont cold air intake. Between the 2 I noticed a big difference from stock, as far as performance. Is the Hypertech programer I had kind of like this BB Performance stuff? or similar but much more advanced?

Keep in mind I have a K&N intake kit (which i am recharging tomorrow because I am driving my Tahoe to Pismo Beach , CA this weekend for a little vacay time).
